au where dirk works for a security firm and hal is the buildings ai…,hal is slightly misanthropic but he’s rly bad at it and also he loves to gossip to roxy about how rose from accounting is low key banging kanaya who works in hr
Dirk is the hardest character to write because he is equal parts the emotional wreck who texts you roughly 3,598 words of Feelings at 4AM when he knows you’re asleep and the aloof asshole who texts “jk” at 5AM when he’s calmed down and then refuses to entertain the notion that any such breakdown ever happened
Gay Narratives and Andrew Hussie’s “Alternia”
In which I tackle troll gender, binary attractive models, gay narratives, and their metatextual implications. An essay in three parts:
i. Alternia: Bisexual, Binormative, or Something Else?
ii. Allegorically Gay: The Problem of “Transcending the Quadrants”
iii. The Metanarrative: What Does It Mean to be Gay?
one thing i would like to see in fandom is Calliope writing/drawing something happening post Credits, and then it comes true? she is a muse of space, and all of her glorious fanfic fantasies come to life (it is very embarrassing for everyone, but she fixes everything in the end, so no one is too angry).
in the early days of Act 6 there were tons of fanfic where the alphas all lived together in a big poly-amorous commune (which might have been referenced/mocked in trickster mode? idk). anyway, it was great and i feel like that would be right down calliope’s fanfic alley.

Me, upon seeing Mom’s room for the first time: Obviously, this cutesy bedroom is here to show that mom is actually more of a sweet, but immature, woman, and not the severe, malicious woman Rose made her out to be.
Andrew Hussie, years later, in a book commentary: Rose’s mom was literally raised in this room.
Me, reading this commentary: …WHAT
What if Grandpa Raised Mom and Bro?
I can’t believe I wrote up this post like a year ago and completely forgot to actually post it. Now that more time has past, I’m thinking that Grandpa found Mom as a baby, but Bro fucked off before he could go get him from his crater, but these were my original Grandpa-raised-young-Mom-and-Bro Hiveswap headcanons when the game first came out.
Grandpa found Mom and Bro in the foster system and adopted them when they were already older children.
-He found Mom first when she was 8 and later Bro when he was 10. They are the same age.
-Grandpa tried his best to be a decent father to them, but still ended up pretty distant.
-Still, there were some happy times: Grandpa taught Mom how to shoot a rifle and bought Bro a million toy ponies. (Bro does not like horses much at all, and is constantly wondering where his old man got the idea he did.)
-Grandpa encouraged Mom in her passion for technology, and Bro in his passion for sowing handmade puppets and plushes.
-He made sure they had a patent/copyright whatever on everything they made so they could receive the royalties from distributing their creations (Mom created a bunch of gadgets for Skaianet, while Bro created a shit ton of doll and puppet designs, including Manthro Chaps, Squiddles, and his signature Smuppets.)
-Mom and Bro were close as kids, and Bro made mom the cute kitty and wizard plushes in her room. (https://www.homestuck.com/story/905)
-There was a lot of friction in the family when Jake married A. Claire. Bro basically hated her guts, but Mom tried to give her a chance as her mom. Both of them felt like she was a poor replacement for someone else. (Jane.)
-There was a huge falling out between Bro and the rest of the family when he and Mom were both older teens, either because Claire started having her own kids, or something happened with Lil Cal. Either way, Bro took off to Texas and has not had any contact with the family since.
-Roxy took up drinking after this incident. Her alcoholism only got worse when A. Claire “died”, Jake went off traveling in misery, and she was left taking care of the kids.
-The room behind the Mummy in the Harley House will have evidence of Mom and Bro living there as kids.
Obviously Grandpa Harley had some inside information about Sburb due to his innate Page of Hope powers (as explained in this chatlog here: https://www.homestuck.com/story/4875).
But what if he also had his own version of brain ghost Dirk hanging around his brain? Jake Harley has no idea who this guys is, but he’s just constantly around, giving him advice and making references from the future he doesn’t understand:
BDG: Run away, Simba. Run away and never return.
Jake Harley, age 12: who the Christ shitting hell is Simba?
BDG: You’ll find out in like 70 years. Now take the dog and go.
I do wish there was a little bit more variety in the troll call trolls, rather than just riffs on the post-scratch trolls from Homestuck. Gamzee’s cult is meant to be obscure, rather than something that every Purpleblood is a member of. Unless like, it’s a plot point that it’s become more obscure in the time period between Hiveswap and Hivebent, and Gamzee is just an extreme traditionalist.
I do wonder if the clown cult still being an influential power in the Alternian empire is just ascended fanon at this point? Especially since Chahut seems to be a reference to a well known Gamzee/Terezi fic which was illustrated by Shelby Cragg (who came up with Chahut’s design, if I recall). It was a “what if sburb never happened?” story, and the clown religion featured heavily.
(Chahut’s outfit also resembles Gamzee’s subjugglator garb, as seen in the top pic here: http://shelbycragg.tumblr.com/post/23768434164/ua-and-i-are-proud-to-present-the-act-two-chapter#notes)
