On the other hand, the fact that Gon knew he had to use excessive force in order to get Illumi to pay attention to him says a lot about his character. He doesn’t like to be looked down on, and this scene proves he’ll do whatever he needs to in order to get his opponent to take him seriously.
Even at this point, I can see the boy who coldly stared Pitou down, and convinced them he was a serious threat through the force of his will alone.
(I wonder if Killua ever found out Gon confronted Illumi in order to rescue him? Does he know Kite’s not the only person he would face down monsters in order to save?)
Illumi looks so surprised in those manga panels; it’s probably been a long time since someone, let alone a 12 year old kid, had the gall to grab him and throw him around. Still, I wonder if he let Gon break his arm in the following scene because he was fascinated in some way? The determination in Gon’s eyes was probably intense enough for even someone like him to take notice.
(And then he just lets Gon keep holding on for the next 10 minutes while everyone argues about Killua’s disqualification lol. Maybe he was busy contemplating how to get free without killing him? Can’t break Hisoka’s new favorite toy while he’s right there in the room watching.
I mean, probably Illumi just didn’t care enough to expend the energy on it, so he was just waiting for him to let go on his own, haha. But it’s fun to contemplate.)
okay so you mean to tell me that the most powerful nen user in the world couldn’t tell that illumi is a manipulator who used his nen to manipulate killua?? i know illumi’s needle was hella subtle and all but a 12 year old child with no concept of aura was able to call this from the get-go, step up your game old man
THIS IS WHAT GETS ME HONESTLY.
you could argue “netero didn’t want to reveal nen to them”. and you know what? that’s probably the in-universe reason. but that just is more of a condemnation of netero’s behavior here.
an adult man has put the “natural order” of his test and the whole “secret test” part of it (which is already shot to death, more than one applicant already knows nen) over the mental and physical safety of a 12 (11 in the manga) year old boy.
an adult man who has the authority to put a stop to it permanently, who is both physically and socially powerful enough to save a child from being abused and mind controlled by his parents and family. an adult man who, even if he wasn’t intimately acquainted with killua’s family, had more than enough evidence to put together that nen had been used and therefore his test had been compromised. netero had all of the information he needed to put the pieces together, and was strong enough and important enough to put an end to it.
I cleaned up the sketchesI drew for a silly chimera ants AU idea I had where Killua is a ladybug and Gon is a grasshopper. These were really fun to draw and also got to try out new brushes I intend to use on a current commission. Win-win!

I recently found one of my favorite fics I read a long time ago, so I thought I would share it with everyone! I never knew I wanted Komugi and Killua to talk before I read this fic! I especially love how Komugi is portrayed in this story so much! Plus, I just love Gon & Killua Chimera Ant AUS like nobody’s business (seriously, I could probably read hundreds of them and enjoy them all).
