Gon is a green blood with powers that trolls of his class don’t usually have–I think that STRENGTH is a good fit for him. His lusci is a foxbear because what goes around, narratively speaking, comes around. He’s maybe a little bit obsessed with living up to the legacy of his ancestor, who seems to have been the best at EVERYTHING. He’s in a moraillegiance with Killua but it’s not very stable as they both need to do a lot of growing before they can complete anyone else. Still, it’ll work out right in the end.
Killua is purple blooded, lower nobility. His lusci is an enormous cyclopean snake, which demands feeding. Eventually he reaches a point where he realizes that he doesn’t /have/ to feed his snake mom in order for her to survive, and at that point he ollies the fuck outie. His first relationship was with Illumi, an older troll of the same caste who was determined to be his mentor/friend/???… Basically it was hard to even think of filling any quadrant when Illumi was there circling him. Illumi tried to instill a sense of aggressive caste pride in Killua but it didn’t take.
If you don’t mind cleaving too close to the canon cast, Kurapika is probably best served as a mutant red blood. Hunted and forced into secrecy by his own body, which no doubt interests all sorts of people from scientists to police trolls to collectors: kurapika’s luscii were slaughtered when a group of older trolls tried to get a fatal hold of him. The pack of wolves–only one of which was technically a lusci but all of which were his family–made sure that Kurapika escaped, at the cost of their own lives. Kurapika thought he was going to be black for Leorio but actually he is Extremely Red.
Leorio is an orange blood. He is way the fuck down at the bottom of the totem pole, second only to his dead childhood friend, a bonafide rust blood. Leorio is an interesting one to transfer because the unspoken hierarchy of troll culture isn’t money, it’s blood. I think you probably get the closest parallel if you make him a troll who thinks that becoming a feared and respected general in the empress’s service will allow him to protect low blood kids who can’t protect themselves. He wants to be a docterrogationist.
Hisoka (Hisoka is always included in the promotional art so) is indigo. I’m just saying, the mirthful messiahs are an indigo cult and he’s a fucking jester, there’s a connection. Plus, berserker strength and episodes of terrifying bloodlust? Okay. Anyways, he doesn’t believe in the cult, except maybe ironically. His lusci was a water bug that died when he was extremely young so he pretty much raised himself. Hisoka is in a spades quadrant with the world, cheerfully and constantly and honestly it’s pretty freaky. He expects he’ll eventually be a subjuggulator, but he doesn’t plan to do it by the book. He thinks the caste system is just a pretty way to make the world orderly and predictable, and he goes out of his way to “encourage” low bloods with remarkable talents.
I love Kurapika and Gon’s conversation from tonight’s episode. Usually people focus more on Gon’s relationship with Killua and Leorio, which I can understand, but he has some great moments with Kurapika, especially during the Yorkshin arc. I wish there was more stuff out there dealing with their friendship. 😦
[lays down on the ground] Komugi is so pure and honest that she just deSTROYS the monster king of hell on earth with it. It’s not even that she’s kind, although she is, and it’s not even that she’s beautiful, because she’s not. She never asks anything of him and he ends up giving her everything. She’s a living embodiment of the joy of doing something you love, earnest and certain and overly self-effacing, she’s so bright that she blinds him.
The king is a being of almost pure ego brought low by this girl who has none, and I’m so constantly in awe.
I actually kinda wondered what gon thought of killua making a new friend of his own, since all their other friends either met gon first and became friends with killua later, or met them together. And now this octopus guy comes in and killua is comfortable enough to argue with him like he argues with gon. Must have been strange.
Watching the dub of the 4th phase of the Hunter Exam reminded me how odd Gon’s sense of morality is, for a shounen jump protagonist, at least. I mean, Gon just spent two episodes stalking Hisoka with the intent to steal his badge while he was in the process of killing another person. Gon makes no excuses or rationalizations to himself about this course of action; he just knows it’s his only shot to steal Hisoka’s badge, so he is fine with going through with it.
(I always forget he also considered letting Kurapika and Leorio get attacked if it gave him the opportunity to steal the badge. I mean, he changed his mind as soon as he thought it through and realized they would not survive the encounter, but damn.)
Just. Every time I rewatch the series, I appreciate how unique and complex Gon’s character is, especially during this part of the Exam. I love Gon.

Summary:
Tokyo Ghoul AU featuring the HxH cast.
There were people who didn’t belong in the world of ghouls. People who should have been kept as far away from that horrific universe as possible.
They weren’t.
Hey, one of my favorite fanfic authors updated their fic, so I wanted to promote it here on my blog. It has great characterization, and if you don’t mind disturbing content I highly recommend it!
(Please mind all the warnings, the fic does get incredibly graphic at times.)
For those of you who are confused about all the fics and art that got churned out for the HxHBB lately, here is an Excel spreadsheet with links to everything that’s been posted up to this point. I got the BB mods’ permission to put this up as the masterlist, so hopefully this helps with any plans to binge-read.
(^ヮ^)/
Much thanks to @akayashi for creating the sheet and doing the bulk of the work and @shalnarkonice for helping me collate the late art links.
(This started as a personal list because aka and I were confused af about what to read first, and we took the liberty of including very short descriptions of what each fic is about to identify them more easily. There were a few that were harder to place without actually reading them, so I had to leave them blank. If any authors want their fic’s description updated, feel free to message me with your preferred–preferably not more than 5 words–description!)
“You must not phone, because at the most important time, it won’t work. You won’t be able to answer the phone either, because one time out of three, on the other end will be the god of death.”
-at the most important time, it wont work.
Shalnark did not have his black voice phone hatsu at the end of this chapter, as Chrollo had it.
-You wont be able to answer the phone, either
Shalnark didnt pick up the phone when Machi called cause he was running for Kortopi.
-on the other end will be the god of death
Machi was calling to warn Shalnark that Hisoka was after them. Hisoka could be considered the god of death coming for him.
And actually killing him
Im aware the fortunes only work for a couple weeks after. HOWEVER, that doesnt mean the fortunes cant be foreshadowing.
