What do you think of characters in the comic (Wing and Meleoron specifically) calling Gon a monster? Or even the people who note Gon’s lack of a clear moral compass, like Zepile and Biscuit?

optimisticduelist:

This is a good question.

I think it is a somewhat accurate assesment but also I read Gon’s unyielding optimism and sort of….faulty moral systems to be partly due to age and partly a defense mechanism/coping tool for his trauma on whale island. So in a way I could say I think it’s people sort of failing to recognize Gon’s more pathological trains of thought for what they are.

That said, that’s really very much my reading of Gon, and not something that I think the show intended to do? So with the text itself:

With regards to Wing I think he was referring to Gon’s talent and potential more than anything, but with Meleoron it’s pretty obvious it’s not just about that: Gon has an inherent sort of schism where if people violate certain boundaries in his head it’s entirely fair game for him to, well, pretty much End Them.

In general I think the narrative touts it as a ‘Good thing’ about Gon but, while that’s applicable in some scenarios (Like with Zepile) theres others where it comes off as really….weird, tone-wise? Like Morel saying “you go crazy with the best of them”. It’s almost like HxH sets up emotional instability and pathological intensity of feeling as the True Path to Power sometimes, to be honest, or at least it does so in the chimera ant arc a lot.

Was that the answer you were looking for, anon, or is there something else you’d like to me to add?

tsukum i know you’re not steven universe but i need you to hear me out:

Consider an au where gon and killua are so in love they decide to literally fuse and become a single being thats sort of a child/product of the two, a mix of their traits & powers, and a literal manifestation of their ongoing mutual conversation & continuing adoration for each other

Then they grow millenias old together that way

The only concrete evidence to determine Neferpitou’s gender appears in the official databook “Hunter × Hunter Character and Word Data Book.” In it, Neferpitou is once referred to using the pronoun “彼” (kare), which is usually translated to “he.”[22][23]

When speaking, Neferpitou uses the pronoun “boku,” (translated to “I” in English) which is used by boys and young men, but it’s also used by some less feminine sounding women.

Pitou's differences

Neferpitou’s different depictions in both the anime and the manga.

Ch304 profile

Pitou’s bust in chapter 304

Neferpitou is shown naked with a flat chest.[24] Later in the manga, Neferpitou is described like a “mother” protecting a child.[25]

In the cover of Volume 28 which is implied to be based off the coronation of Virgin Mary, Neferpitou takes the middle position which corresponds to Virgin Mary’s.

In the manga, Neferpitou’s chest is usually flat. In contrast, the 2011 anime depicts Neferpitou by giving it a consistent bust.

From all this, it should be assumed that Neferpitou does not have a specific or “confirmed” gender. Because of this, this article uses non-gendered pronouns such as “they/they’re.”

It is possible that Neferpitou’s gender in the manga differs from the anime.

all of this is from hunterpedia which in general i dislike but it exemplifies the situation w/ Neferpitou pretty well

ever imagined gon taking care of a baby

Gon & Killua would be such good dads ok listen i have so many headcanons about Gon and Killua dads

Gon would be sort of annoyingly overbearing sometimes because he would want 2 make sure his kid knows theyre loved and appreciated and dont have to do anything but be a kid if they dont want to

None of their kids are scared of thunderstorms because whenever they would get scared Gon would point out that Killua pretty much IS a thunderstorm and Killua would show them all cool lightning tricks so for pretty much all of their kids (however many there end up being) thunderstorms and lightning just bring back comforting memories of home & feeling safe and protected

Also there is never a time when a kid brings home a stray they ask to keep and get met with ‘No’ no matter how exasparated Killua is. Gon wins this every single time. meanwhile Gon insists its not ok that kids spend a full TWO DAYS just playing a video game and Killua is just like shut up Gon this is culture!!! They’re almost at the best part you don’t understand!!!!|

Their kids DO all get training and martial arts training and stuff but Killua is very very wary and careful of it being too stressful for them he doesnt want them to end up like him. They’re good at motivating between all the cool shit they can do though. Nen is pretty much universally useful considering its applications

I have so much more but im gonna stop here for now

Killua and Gon’s relationship when reading Gon as an abuse survivor (a killugon friendship manifesto)

optimisticduelist:

Alright so someone wanted meta about Gon/Killua and I was like “wait I have been considering writing that” so here I am.

Unlike everything else I’ve written for/about Hunter x Hunter, I actually consider this one relatively uplifting, but it still comes with heavy content warnings for #csa and #negligence as well as #abuse, #domestic abuse, and #torture mentions.

I’m not going to go into detail into the specifics of the abuse because this is about Gon and Killua’s relationship to each other and how they change and improve(or hurt) each other’s situations and their feelings about each other as a result! If you want to know more about my view on Gon’s abuse then you can look at my Gon #CSA metapost, and well, pretty much everyone knows about Killua’s abusive and toxic relationship with his family so if you really need details about it, shoot me an ask.

For this I’m going to assume you are A) Caught up with the 2011 anime and B) Have read the aforementioned metapost and C) At least have some knowledge of the manga, as there are slight spoilers in it as well.

hi hello hunter x hunter is by and large a story about the effects of abuse and trauma & if you dont understand this you dont understand hxh thanks

There are so many things wrong with this statement i can’t point them out in one night.

yeah there sure is absolutely nothing pathological about Killua’s terror of and struggle with delearning abuse from Illumi. There’s no abuse narrative there what am I talkin about. It’s not like he has a devalued sense of self worth which he compensates for by throwing himself into extremely intense patterns of unhealthy giving towards people whom he idolizes (Alluka and Gon)

Kurapika literally being triggered by spiders and falling into patterns of self-isolation and disconnecting themselves from their own support group because of an unhealthy obsession with revent?? naah theres no reaction to trauma there! What are you talking about

Gon’s reality-ignoring optimism and, when it eventually  blows up in his face, his inability to handle guilt and rage to the point where he literally basically kills himself in order to take out his rage on the object of them? His repeated habits of self harm? Getting his hand blown up, letting the Kite doll beat the shit out of him which was explicitly out of guilt and an inability to forgive himself?
Yeah that’s totally a healthy coping mechanism there’s nothing to be said there about self harm narratives

Like there’s other stuff that like, sure, I guess you could argue, but everything I’ve said here is explicit text so like I really don’t know what you’re going to try and argue but if you actually want to instead of comin out with vague snipes then I’m all ears. I certainly prefer debate and analysis about the story to the endless storm of creepy hisogon shipping and creepy pictures of Illumi and KIllua as “happy” siblings, so it’s not like you’re bothering me any.

Gon Freecs’ metatextual history of sexual abuse & the failure of Hunter x Hunter canon.

optimisticduelist:

Alright. Tumblr erased my first draft of this so I’m going to shorten my intro quite a bit:

This post has spoilers for episodes 93 and 94, and I will be assuming you’ve watched it if you’re reading this.

Additionally, this post has trigger warnings for #child sexual assault and #child abuse. If anyone needs any other triggers, please let me know.
