Honestly sometimes I wonder exactly how a series like Hunter x Hunter gets away with being marketed as for children. I mean I get that most of the (very disturbing) adult and complex themes are somewhat subtle so kids may not pick up on them while watching it, but then you have scenes like this.
Really, a scene where a mutant ant matter-of-factly strips and mind fucks one of the supporting characters by physically tampering with his brain, all of it on screen? And that’s without even getting on the whole genocide and mass eating of humans by the mutant species.
So after watching tonight’s episode, I started to think about Kalluto’s nen. Specifically, I wondered why he has such mastery over nen at his age.
Although he is at least two years younger than Killua, he has already developed three techniques he put to good use in this episode. He is even skilled enough to plant his paper on the other Ryodan members without them noticing (although that might be the assassin training). The point is, he is much further along than Killua is at this point in the story (although Killua is catching up fast).
I assume that the Zoldyck family simply allowed Kalluto to learn about nen much sooner than his brother, but I am really confused about why they did so.
A while back, someone proposed the idea that Killua was supposed to learn about nen the first time he went to the Heaven’s Arena, but instead he stopped when he hit the 200th floor and just went home. Maybe Kalluto went through the same trial, but persevered and learned nen when he hit the 200th floor? It would explain his progress alright
And Killua is supposed to be the prodigy of the family?
A/N: At last, the first piece of the promised fanfic is here! I’ve actually had this part done for awhile, but I wanted to be at least through the next chapter before I posted it. I’ll get Chapter 2 posted in a few days… exact timing depends on how quickly I move alone with writing Chapter 3. Certainly one of the highlights of this episode is seeing human Welfin (and most probably Ikarugo!!!!!!)
aaaaah omg i actually like it a lot that they’re introducing Gyro and company earlier because it makes much more sense and it’s less random than the way it was in the manga and this way people will be able to make the connection
i also like that they’re developing the chimera ants and the dynamics between them a bit more

Ok but like, how can anyone take Illumi in 2011 seriously?
1999 was way more badass.
The only problem I have with the 2011 anime is that I really didn’t care for their version of Illumi (or his voice). I loved the 1999 version so much, he was just so intimidating and chilling. The episode where he fights Killua is simply perfect. The lighting in the episode alone makes it so much more memorable. The 2011 version doesn’t even compare.
