Has anyone ever thought about the parallels between Meruem x Komugi and Killua x Gon?

For example – Meruem starts out as an antagonist–is supposed to “take” over the world and had many people killed. (ahem, sorta, kinda-ish like Killua)

This was his predetermined fate. Meruem was only born for that very reason, it was in his blood. And in the beginning he is very cold, very distant, and an asshole. (sound familiar?) He had everything yet nothing at the same time; he had the world in his hand, amazing talent, was supposed to be the “best” King to have ever ruled thus far…yet no idea who he was, had no self-awareness, no thoughts of his own, was consistently guarded/protected and told what they think he should/shouldn’t do.

But all it took was one person, one simple person who had nothing, yet gave him everything–she asked him questions about his own life, giving and showing him a whole new perspective of what it truly meant. Meruem didn’t even know his own name and came to realize the basic principle of what it meant just to have one. The basics of life versus being a robot.

Meruem x Komugi died together–they wanted too.

And we all know that Killua was prepared & would have died with Gon.

I’ve read a few times where Japanese translator’s say Killua specifically said, “it will be a double-suicide” with the intentions of it meaning a “lover’s suicide”.

read the full version here

“As his best friend (and nothing more), it is but a very normal reaction to be down to the point of thinking of committing double suicide, right ?)
Nevertheless.
This is the English translation, and if we were to take a look at the original version ?
We read the word 心中 (しんじゅう). That word may be used in recent days as a mere way to describe a collective suicide. Togashi, however, is not some average youngster and, as a mangaka who isn’t exactly afraid of long narration and dialogues, may have some knowledge in the words he chooses to use.心中, for instance, is not (at all) a casual way to describe collective suicide, especially when it involves only two people. This word literally means, in its primary sense, “lovers’s suicide”, referring to couples who wished to keep loving each other after death.”

You know, the first Hyori Ittai ending is probably my favorite ending, not only because CA arc is my favorite arc, but also because it displays the characters that I love and focuses so much on Komugi and the King who are, in essence, the basis for the entire arc. And one thing in particular I like about it is how it parallels Komugi/Meruem and Gon/Killua in it

Madhouse did a really fine job at it, just like how it did with Illumi/Kikyo (pls read this it’s so good).

Another parallel one can trace among all four of them is that they all died or were mortally injured at least once: Killua to the Ortho siblings, Gon and Meruem to explosions and Komugi to Zeno’s dragon dive. In Gon’s and Komugi’s case, Killua and Meruem witnessed the event, whereas in Killua’s and Meruem’s, Gon and Komugi were unaware of their misfortune.

Similarly, Killua had Alluka/Something heal Gon, much like Meruem had Pitou heal Komugi.

Are we not going to talk about Palm and Pitou though?

image
image

Palm and Pitou explicitly state Killua and Komugi are the most important person to Gon and Meruem respectively. Pitou even go as far as saying that should Komugi die, Meruem would cease to be who he is (which is true, once Meruem forgets about Komugi, he reverts to who he used to be before meeting her, aka a different person). Now this is just interpretation but since it’s parallels we’re tracing here, it’s also safe to assume the same could be said about Gon should Killua die (if Gon went great lengths for Kite, imagine what would happen to him had Killua died to Pitou instead).

Though I personally see Meruem more as a parallel to Gon and Komugi to Killua than the other way around. A couple of reasons as to why I see it this way: 1) In the Hyori Ittai ending, Gon and Meruem are seen on the black gungi pieces whereas Komugi and Killua are on the white ones; 2) Meruem and Gon died to powerful explosions (and on really close episodes too 126/131); 3) Meruem begins as a violent man who sees humans as nothing more than meat and slowly learns to respect and love them whereas Gon is the kind of person who has shown compassion and kindness to any people/animals before (covering his fishing rod with cloth so as not to hurt the birds in Hunter Exam arc/showing compassion to Pakunoda despite her committing genocide before) but becomes blind with rage and comes to despise the ants after getting in contact with them. Gon hating and Meruem caring are the most surprising points in the arc. which actually leads to; 4) Meruem’s and Gon’s individual character development during this arc are literally the climax of the arc; 5)

Depending on how much you consider Gon and Meruem to be alive after their confrontation with Pitou and Netero respectively, you could even say Gon/Meruem were revived at some point; 6) Killua and Komugi, in their own way, dedicate their lives to Gon and Meruem to the point where Killua/Komugi are willing to die with Gon/Meruem.

And speaking of the double suicide thing, It’s not enough that Killua is willing to go with Gon against Pitou

image

Meruem and Komugi’s “double suicide” parallel’s Killua’s feelings on the matter pretty well: since there’s no salvation for Meruem anyway, nothing brings Komugi more happiness than telling him she wants to go with him.

image

And the T/N reads that Komugi is offering herself to Meruem, much like Killua was implying the lover’s suicide with Gon to Meleoron.

ALSO, HOW CAN WE TALK ABOUT MERUEM/KOMUGI AND KILLUA/GON WITHOUT TALKING ABOUT THEIR HANDS???

Last but not least, I’ll just leave these here:

Can we please talk about this for a second? Oh my god, is he not the spitting image of his mother or what? I think it’s astonishing how Madhouse has managed to insert these uncanny idiosyncrasies so cleverly throughout the series. It really offers some additional insight to the way the Zoldycks (especially that of Illumi) were raised and how it has shaped their personalities as well as their nen abilities in respect to the canon verse. Illumi clearly takes after his mother where as Killua takes after Silva.

The Setting Sun of New Old Road
Gon/Killua + Alluka, 8.2k words, T (violence, language, suggestive themes)

The road that crossed Gordeau Desert all the way to Yorknew City was a peculiar one. Killua and Alluka were just trying to finish some jobs in the area. Gon wasn’t sure what he was doing in the middle of the desert, but he was up for the ride.

Many thanks to capnraye and pico for being wonderful betas!

Fandom: Hunter x Hunter
Pairings: Leopika (feat. Trans!Leorio) + cute but (for now) platonic Killugon = Family, also some Amane/Canary later on
Word Count (current chapter): 8,376
Content warnings: implied/referenced child abuse, transgender issues and other gender issues, some mild fantasy violence and mild supernatural creepyness in later chapters, non-explicit smut in later chapters, mild language overall

Summary: Leorio wakes up in the back of a pickup truck in an RV park in the middle of nowhere, with no memory of how he got there. He accidentally befriends a peculiar shut-in and a pair of runaways, but the more his attempts to get home are thwarted, the less all of this seems like a simple coincidence.

A strange modern fairy tale AU about the family you choose.

Shoutout to reeology for alpha/beta-reading and adulterclavis for listening to me babble incoherently about plot, and to kurahpikah for inadvertently planting transboy Leorio in my brain to begin with.

This will be a very long fic. I have 40k already written. It’s not even halfway done. But on my current schedule it should be finished by the end of September. Not sure atm if I will post every week or every other week, we shall see.

Enjoy your slow burn leopika.

Oh my goodness, everyone read this fic. All the characters are nailed down perfect, and I particularly like how Leorio and Gon are portrayed. The plot is only just getting started, but it looks pretty promising so far. Read it read it read it!

gon-and-killuas-mother:

Oh hell I’m actually about to draw a parallel between Gon and Hisoka and it’s about to piss me the fuck off

Gon and Hisoka both basically live for the thrill of the fight, always searching for stronger opponents to challenge them because what’s more exciting than the idea of “hey this guy could actually kill me”.

And then there’s this little moment, which is something we see a lot with Gon. He’s trembling with excitement, practically itching to fight. When he first encountered Hisoka, he was terrified, but he told Kurapika that he was also excited. I’m sure you guys remember that whenever Gon is prepping for a fight with Hisoka, like in the Fourth Phase or in Heaven’s arena, we see him doing the same thing; trembling and smiling like he’s looking forward to the thrill.

And then there’s motherfucking Hisoka, who has a disgusting reputation of getting off on fighting. But he does the exact same thing Gon does when faced with the idea of good fight. Above, we see Gon before Hisoka’s match, and he’s obviously thinking about fighting Hisoka himself. He has to hold his hand still because he’s so excited.

This is Hisoka watching Gon’s first fight in the 200s. His shoulder is twitching, and he has to hold himself still. He can’t fucking wait to fight Gon.

Moments like these have been repeated several times with both of them, and it drives me nuts that sweet little Gon actually has something in common with the trash clown Hisoka.

ok but “the (pre-yorkshin arc) phantom troupe finds a baby” is a goldmine of potential

machi and nobunaga are looking for the parents

shalnark and uvo are puzzling over formula – this one is cheap, but doesn’t that mean it might not be as good? what’s this one got in it? should they just rob the store?

paku is vaguely unsettled by the whole thing, but she’s trying her best because the baby won’t stop crying unless he’s being held by a woman and shizuku… she loves shizuku to death but she’s so scatterbrained she cannot be trusted to watch this baby

phinks actually sort of knows how to take care of a baby but he is unwilling to admit this and watches from the corner

feitan hates the baby, call him when it’s gone

kortopi, franklin, and bonolenov all are Scary to the baby so they’re not in spooky quarantine. franklin is secretly depressed over this.

chrollo thinks this is a wonderful turn of events. he’s glad they’re sharing this experience; they’ll surely all grow as people from this. please keep it away from him.

a few hours later hisoka has somehow taken the baby and is just casually holding it (properly, he doesn’t do things half-assed). he’s using bungee gum to dangle little baubles and the baby is Ecstatic at the shiny bouncy things. machi is horrified. hisoka is good with babies.

then the baby burps up on him and he just goes “ah.”

i’m thinking too much about this au holy shit lord help me

chimera ants au where gon is a grasshopper and killua is a ladybug. they’re from different squads and they met for the first time when they were assigned to this mission that had two squads working together. i’m not really looking for any angst here, just cutesy fluff stuff like them meeting after work and climbing on top of trees and looking at the sky and talking about life or their previous lives. :’) (bonus: one of them works directly under pitou)

we also just determined that Pariston would be Gold and Ging would be Vesuvianite

Ging’s gem is on his right bicep, and Pariston’s gem is right between his collarbones and has a big ol’ crack right down the middle, but there’s nothing visibly wrong with him

#we haven’t decided their weapons yet#cuz we haven’t actually seen them fight in canon either#also Pariston makes sure that everyone who looks at him can see the crack in his gem#but he always seems perfectly fine and it’s unnerving
