AU where killua is an actual magical unicorn creature. people know he can maul you with his horn, but the healing tears are a secret.

taluluto:

dude holy fuclk. holy fuck holy shit. holy fuck. and he’s drawn to gon because unicorns are drawn towards beings of purity in any aspect and killua’s half-unicorn soul perceives gon as pure light. fucking unicorn boy killua with a horn and tail and healing tears DONT DO THIS TO ME!!!!

Ever since reading the doujinshi “Killua-kun, Hai!,” I’ve wanted to read like 100 fanfics with the premise “Gon or Killua get hit with a strange nen ability and the other has to take care of him until it wears off/they get a nen exorcist to remove it.” There’s so many different effects I would like to see…I wonder how many I would have to read before I get tired of the formula…

what are your thoughts on the theory that gon has no mom and ging gave birth to him via the pregnancy stone?

doughtier:

omg anon hello!!!! I’m sorry to have kept you waiting.

I am fully aware that this was likely a trolly ask. However, a wild plot twist appears, and mpreg is actually one of my favourite tropes and has been for at least over a decade, and that’s why you’re going to get a serious and very detailed reply.

I’ve conflicting emotions about that theory.

1) THAT WOULD BE AMAZING

2) THAT WOULD DESTROY MY THEORY THAT GON’S MOTHER IS AN ALIEN eta: a post about that will be coming soon!

And since I’m pretty attached to my “Gon’s mum is an alien” theory (yes it is a serious theory despite what it sounds like), being so excited about Gon being the result of the mpreg makes my head hurt.

Putting that aside, Gon being the result of mpreg would be amazing. There are so many ways this could go!

1) I’m assuming developing Greed Island took several years. And I’m assuming there would’ve been … accidents. Cards could malfunction. The pregnancy stone could malfunction on Ging. It’s entirely possible for Ging to have got pregnant with Gon by mistake. Imagine how horrific it would be for a man to accidentally become pregnant. Would he want to have the fetus aborted? If he did, could he even get it aborted, what with no skilled doctor in aborting male pregnancy? How would he react to the changes his body would have to go through? How dangerous would the pregnancy be? What would be his emotional state throughout? Afterwards? And after all that, how would he even handle a baby???

2) And maybe it would’ve been fully intentional! Ging could be missing his family so bad that he wanted a part of him with him. Or maybe he’s just always wanted a child. It’s possible he volunteered for testing the card on males and see what happen. The same medical questions would arise as in the first scenario, though: what sort of medical attention would he get? How would he even deliver the baby? (it’s entirely possible it would be so dangerous that he’d need to use Angel’s Breath after the birth, or else he or Gon or both might die.) And really, this is a serious question: how would he even know what to do with a baby? Maybe he remembered thing from Mito’s babyhood, but who knows.

3) Maybe the reason he abandoned Gon is because he retroactively got freaked out by the fact that he’d got pregnant and given birth. I cannot stress enough just how traumatic that experience could be – not just because he’s male and lacking the proper equipment, but also because having a baby is a hugely emotional ordeal that a lot of actual, meatspace parents struggle with.

Happy sighing. Thinking about all of this makes me very happy indeed. Thank you for this ask, anon!

whether gon has a problem with little girls or not, he definitely needs more friends who are girls. or at least girls closer to his own age, since palm, biscuit, and senritsu are all a lot older than him. (wait i think killua and zushi are the only friends he has who are close to his age? jeez.)

gon go make friends with alluka. she is adorable and needs more people to talk to besides killua. go go go.

the characters in HxH are far away from being stereotypical, so also the women are shown as strong independent characteres in different shapes and minds. But there is a scene I really am having problems with and I would like to hear your opinion about it. (spoiler warnings) when gon finally meets his father he is utterly confused bc of his trauma, and is ignoring the good things that happened (he’s still alive, the king is dead, he meets his dad) instead he is still worried about kite, which is*

doughtier:

* which isn’t the problem. Gon is simple minded, so it’s not so unexpected that his first thought is about kite. my problem is, gon is complaining and apologizing for kite being a girl! Everything should be fine, since thei’re all alive, but all he is worrying about, is kite was reborn with the wrong gender! While reading this scene I got really offended by gon being that mysoginistic. I was hoping your point of view could maybe calm me a bit.

There are three levels to consider for what Gon says to Ging about Kite:
Narrative level (aka Togashi)
Translated narrative level (aka word usage of the translator)
In-story level (aka Gon himself)

– Togashi-wise, we’ve been continually shown that we shouldn’t underestimated the little girls. Or the big girls. Or any sort of girls. Togashi has consistently subverted the ‘little cute girls’ trope with Canary, Biscuit, Komugi and Alluka (to name a few) in vastly different ways. I’m leaning towards saying that the problem with that line isn’t with Togashi; Togashi isn’t the sort to do things like this without ‘calling himself out’ on them within the narrative.

– Translation-wise, I wish I knew what the original text said, and whether it has the same patronising, insulting connotations as ‘little girl’ does in English. That’s not to say I don’t think there’s a Japanese equivalent to this, but maybe that was the best translation possible, in spite of the negative connotations ‘little girl’ has in English. If there’s a Japanese speaker with the raw manga, please help me out put this niggling suspicion to rest. 🙂

– Gon-wise … oh boy. There are several levels here, too, and I suspect the reasoning for Gon’s “little girl” comment is a mix of all three Gon-levels, but I can’t tell which one has the most influence on him uttering it. They are:

** contrast; human!Kite is very, very tall and lean, and knowledgeful. Chimera!Kite is short and stocky (something Gon can’t know yet) and *young*. This sort of contrast could be what Gon’s got stuck in his mind after waking up. Which leads me to …

** confusion; Gon’s spent a long time unconscious and uncomminicative. Even after being healed by Nanika, it’s very likely he was disoriented and not at his best. Add that to the shock of finally meeting Ging, and there’s a good recipe for him saying something tactless. And sometimes, tactlessness isn’t the result of being a misogynist (or any other -ist): sometimes you just forget a word and pick the next best thing, or mess up your sentence structure. If you pay attention to people’s speech, it’s not all that rare. It’s possible to say something -istic without being that; there’s a distinction, albiet it’s rather difficult to spot at times. (When in doubt, check how a person reacts to being called out.)

** Gon actually being misogynistic; this is the third time Gon has expressed something like this. The first time was in Whale Island when he told Killua he was his first friend his age (because the only other kid his age on the island was a girl); the second time was when he and Killua tried ditching Biscuit because she couldn’t possibly be useful. On that I’d like to say that Gon is somewhere between 12-14 in the series, and it’s the tailend of the ‘girls have cooties’ stage, especially considering how little contact he’s had with kids his age. He doesn’t at all treat older women like this, even though he does seem to have some difficulty connecting to women as well as accepting them as role models (Killua is better in this regard than him).

Does that make Gon misogynistic? I’m not so sure. Occasionally displaying sexist behaviours, yes, definitely. Misogynistic? Hmm. Personally, I wouldn’t go as far as calling him that.

(That said, there are a thousand different distinctions between sexism and misogyny, and it’s entirely possible others’ definitions to them don’t match up with mine.)

itsybitsyjoltik:

okay i’ve seen so many different headcanons for aged up gon and they are all great but like

aged up gon who’s kind of chubby

like he’s one of those guys who kind of gets underestimated because he doesn’t look like he’d be all that strong but he’s still in great shape. he’s got plenty of muscle, it’s just hidden

and he gives really great hugs

please consider

Oh no I’m reading through the Yorkshin arc again, and I’m really intrigued with the idea of a Spider Gon AU? Like, he would never ever join them in canon because he wouldn’t betray Kurapika like that and the Spiders know he’s Kurapika’s friend now. But what if he never met Kurapika before meeting them? What circumstances would lead to him joining the Genei Ryodan?

i love, loVE the idea of spider gon, but i agree with the other reblog about how unlikely it is based off of canon gon. i think the best odds of justifying spider gon would be an au where he grows up in meteor city, where his already odd canon morals end up…even stranger/looser. i still think even then he’d have his weird quirks, like personally preferring not to kill people when not really necessary (but having no problem whatsoever associating with people who do).

but then the question is how to justify…that. because ging is a terrible father, but even he’s not THAT bad.

(i actually made a longer post about this once…it’s here)

oh my gosh yes, growing up in meteor city would probably be the best way to write a spider gon au. i think the manga even mentions that the troupe occasionally do philanthropic work for meteor city (like helping with the chimera problem), so I think it might be the one place where people would have mainly positive feelings about them. so environment + looser morals + being impressed by strong, cool people ( – quest to find his dad) = spider gon.

But yeah I don’t think Ging is careless enough to just leave him anywhere like that. Maybe he was kidnapped and eventually ended up there? Or something happened to Whale Island (like a natural disaster) and he was the only survivor? So he eventually landed in the place for people with no where else to go…
